Friends are extremely difficult to come by. It’s in part of Tristam being so isolated; he doesn’t willingly see too many people in the first place. Another is that he’s wary of others as a whole, and is extremely distrustful unless they prove themselves to him. A person trying to get too close to him too quickly will likely result in either being attacked, or Tristam closing off completely. Forming trust and friendship is a stressful affair, though he’s more likely to form affinities with other marine creatures, or others who are just as lonely or isolated as he is.
Enemies are never taken too kindly. They’re just as rare as friends for pretty much the same reasons, but enemies will be met with more offense and less shy retreat. He might not be much of a physical fighter, but he can still stand his own using his magic, and he won’t be afraid to utilize it if something becomes a threat. Even with good intentions, Tristam is more likely to think of someone as an enemy if they refuse to give him enough space, or always try to dig into his personal life.
Love is already absolute, and he’ll fight tooth and nail for it, refusing to budge. The reason behind everything he does, every walk on the beach, every song he sings morning and night and every tear he sheds, is for that fisherman that had taken care of him in another life. Despite the fisherman’s death, and his own death and rebirth, their bond was strong enough to transcend the afterlife, and he remains bound to him. Tristam is waiting for the day that he’ll be reincarnated and come back to him, and he’s still waiting, hundreds of years later.
