V. About the City

[/b] Moonlight Bay was founded in 1850 as a small settlement devoted to being a supply route to the towns that once lay further north at the foot of the mountains during the height of the Gold Rush. As it died down, those towns eventually devolved into ghost towns and the miners and their families who once resided there moved back down to Moonlight Bay. With the advent of the industrial expansion and the construction of the Pacific Railroad that ramped up settlement in the west, the town saw its influx of people, both American citizens and immigrants and grew into a city. In the midst of this period of growth, Moonlight Bay University was founded.

The impending arrival of World War II to their shores caused a number of military companies to start-up, with the most prominent being General Arms, which is known as Torus Science and Technology today. The city had also gone through another massive growth. Though small when compared to more famous cities like Los Angeles and San Diego, it was still very respectable. Numerous other corporations had sprung up as well, both during the war and after it.

The passing decades had seen a number of changes, most of which included civil rights and other social issues. More covertly, however, was the slow integration of the mythos and human societies. For the past few decades, they had lived amongst the humans right under their noses. Present day Moonlight Bay is a bastion of the mythos-human alliance as well as a vanguard of technological and magical innovation. Its streets teem with life, populated with all kinds of people and mythos.[/div][/td][/tr]

[/b] Moonlight Bay University was founded in 1934 as a public research institution. While it lacks the illustrious history of many top name universities, it quickly grew over the years to the point where it could easily rival them, to the point where it is considered to be a Public Ivy school. MBU is a coed and secular institution, and has a very comprehensive undergrad and graduate program. The University is comprised of several schools: College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, School of Medicine (which includes Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, and Kinesiology), College of Engineering, School of Law, School of Music, School of Theatre and Dance, School of Art and Design, College of Architecture, School of Graduate Studies, School of Education, and School of Business. In addition to its expansive academic programs, MBU is a big name in sports, with around 30 varsity sports programs. The school’s mascot is the Marauder.[/div][/td][/tr]

[/b] Torus Science Technology Corporation began as General Armaments, a small arms manufacturer in the early 1900s that dealt with infantry weapons. In the wake of Pearl Harbor, production of military vehicles, weapons, and supplies went into full production in a number of companies and industries, and GA was no exception. Despite this apparent synergy amongst all industrial companies in the US in supporting the war effort, GA had gone on to absorb the other military and technology start-ups that had started up in the same city at a startling rate, eventually becoming Torus Science Technology. By the end of the war, Torus had gone on to join other leading figures in the industry as a top competitor in the market.

Today, Torus continues to lead the industry with many technological and scientific innovations. The corporation has several divisions including but not limited to: Aerospace, Marine Engineering, Civil Engineering, Consumer Electronics, Weapons, and Logistics. They also share a joint venture with SelvaFisker Pharmaceuticals in the form of a bioengineering division. They are also known for having a large and incredibly well-funded research division, thanks, in part, to profits raked in from several wars and conflicts after WWII. Despite holding several government contracts, Torus is also known for its private military division. Its current CEO is Bryan Gallagher.[/div][/td][/tr]

[/b] SelvaFisker started off as a small manufacturer of natural aspirin on the corner of a street in San Francisco during the 1890s by Antonio Selva and Tobias Fisker. It was a relatively profitable business during the time, but the two of them desired to do something more. In 1910, they closed up shop and moved to Moonlight Bay, establishing another shop which quickly expanded into a lab and factory. By the time the 1920s rolled around, they were producing synthetic aspirin full-time, which allowed them to rake in the profits and expand their business even further, allowing them to create a research division dedicated to the discovery of new pharmaceutical drugs.

When World War II rolled around, there was a high demand for penicillin to support the war effort. SelvaFisker was one of the first companies to jump on the bandwagon, and again profited immensely from it. The aftermath of the war saw the price of penicillin quickly dropping, and therefore no longer became profitable. During this time, the research division had discovered and tested new types of drugs, many of which allowed SelvaFisker to stay at the top of the game. In the present, SelvaFisker has become a pharmaceutical giant. They currently consist of four commercial divisions: Human Health, Consumer Healthcare, Animal Health, and Corporate. Their research division is a separate division entirely, and is currently making breakthroughs in fields like bioengineering and neuroscience. The current CEO of SelvaFisker is Serena Selva.[/div][/td][/tr]

[/b] Unlike the previous two big corporations, Vist Energy began rather late in the game, coming into existence around the 1950s. As such their history is not as expansive as either Torus or SelvaFisker. Around two hundred gas and electric companies that had gone defunct decades prior had pooled what little of their resources remained and formed Vist Energy, with Albert Vist at its head. The corporation had gone on to service hundreds of thousands of homes in California, providing both gas and electric utilities, adding even more to their customer base by the early 2000s.

However, gas and electric services only comprises one aspect of Vist. They have several divisions devoted to alternative power sources including wind and solar power. They also have developed a profitable biofuel division, owning a huge stake in the biofuel market. However, the bulk of their research funds goes to nuclear power, including research towards developing a viable nuclear fusion reactor. They also have several projects devoted to protecting and bettering the environment, an endeavor that’s won them several awards. Vist is currently headed by[/div][/td][/tr]
