»
|
These are your normal, everyday humans. By default they do not have a contract with a creature and the vast majority is unable to see them. The few who can do so unassisted are able to due to their bloodline. They are free to make bonds with any creature if they please.
Humans have an innate ability to use magic. However, this ability is extremely weak and most do not notice this ability. A human’s magic alone will almost always be weaker than that of a creature’s.
» Human magic can be strengthened through practice, which in turn increases the practitioner’s spiritual strength. When sufficiently powerful enough, as far as human magic goes, they can gain the ability to see creatures and beings unassisted.
» A practitioner of magic who forms a contract with a creature will see vast gains in their spiritual strength. For most, this is merely borrowed strength and the actual magic ability tends to match that of the creature’s. However, those who form an especially strong bond with each other can resonate their spiritual powers and amplify it to levels beyond what either is capable of on their own.[/ul][/div]
[style=margin-left: 20px; margin-bottom: -4px;]» MYTHOS
[/style]
»
An umbrella term used to describe the beings and creatures of legend. Within that the terms “creature” and “being” are used. “Creature” tends to refer to those who are more beast-like while “being” refers to those that are more humanoid. However, these are labels created by the humans to categorize them. The Mythos themselves don’t use such terms unless speaking with humans.
Creatures have the ability to invisible to the human eye and can turn this ability on and off at will. Only humans of sufficient spiritual strength are able to see them regardless. This ability to become invisible does not make them intangible and they can still take damage.
» Creatures can be harmed by human weapons.
» Many creatures have a weakness that can be used against them to greater effect than a normal weapon.
» Creatures are able to make contracts with humans.
» A creature’s abilities, including elemental abilities that are physical or magical in natures, are almost always stronger than a human’s.
» Creatures can be from any mythology and live as they please. However, gods and goddesses are off-limits.[/ul][/div]
[style=margin-left: 20px; margin-bottom: -4px;]» BOUND
[/style]
»
A mutual contract in which both parties remain as separate physical entities is known as a “bound” in a sense that the individual souls are bound to each other. However, the two are bound and compelled to help each other when one needs it. In essence, they are summoned.
Both parties bear an identifying mark of some sort on their bodies. It can range anywhere from a natural tattoo or a very strange birthmark.
» There is a vast number of summoning rituals that bounds employ. It may be something as simple as touching the mark and calling a name or something far more complicated. Whatever it may be is up to the forgers of the contract. Once a summon is carried out, the party summoned may ignore it. But as time goes on, they become increasingly compelled to see the other. As a result, they will know how to get to the other, even if they don’t know where they are.
» The mythos in the partnership can grant the human some of their powers. This is however, a double edged sword as the mythos is dividing its abilities in order to grant the human some of it.
» Both parties are able to communicate via telepathy, but only with each other.[/ul][/div]
[style=margin-left: 20px; margin-bottom: -4px;]» COHABITATION
[/style]
»
A mutual contract in which the mythos inhabits the human’s body is known as “cohabitation.” The human is granted the mythos’ wide range of abilities, only limited by how much the human is able to handle. If some abilities are too powerful, they are merely sealed off until the human becomes powerful enough to utilize them.
The mythos exists as an incorporeal entity within the human’s body; a vessel if you will. The two communicate telepathically, but only between them.
» If the human is somehow knocked out or incapacitated, the mythos residing in their body may take over to ensure the safety of both.
» It goes without saying, unless the contract is broken and the mythos returns to its natural physical state, if the human dies, so does the mythos.
» There is usually an identifying mark or physical trait on the human’s body representative of whatever mythos resides in them.
» Roleplaying cohabitants is a bit more work as it involves roleplaying both the human and the inhabiting mythos.[/ul][/div]
[style=margin-left: 20px; margin-bottom: -4px;]» POSSESSION
[/style]
»
A possession is not a contract. It is the antithesis of cohabitation in that one party assumes control of the other against their will. As such this is not a mutual partnership.
Possession, in most cases involves a mythos assuming direct control of a human vessel against their will.
» The human’s consciousness is typically subdued. They have no memory of the events that occur in between being possessed and exorcised. In rare cases, however, they take a back seat and witness everything their captor does.
» As it is the mythos who is in control, the vessel gains full use of their abilities.
» The only way for the human vessel to be freed is if the mythos possessing it leaves willingly, or is forcefully expelled. There are numerous ways to accomplish the latter depending on what mythos it is.
» Roleplaying a possessed character may be more work as it involves roleplaying both the mythos and the human, but not always.[/ul][/div]
